Gearing up
for 2014’s National Night Out at Obici Hospital
Save the
Date: Tuesday, August 5, 2014 6-9pm
Did you
miss the 2013 National Night Out at Obici?
In the past it was a lot of work for a handful of people to
get the event planned, organized, advertised, setup, and manned. We all have
busy work and personal lives which can make it hard to volunteer for different
outside activities. The combined 2013 event at Obici Hospital was much easier
for all those that helped out plus pooling different resources and talents help
us put on a nicer event that was less work for those helping out. (If you missed out on last summer’s grand
event check out some of the links at the end of this note.)
Did it
cost Hillpoint Farms HOA anything last year?
No – NOT A PENNY! We chose not to ask for any funds and fund the event via sponsor
donations.
So who
paid for the free food and entertainment?
Food: We our thanks
to the Obici Healthcare Foundation, they sponsored the full cost of the food
that was served to everyone that attended. Ricky and Roy’s Catering of Suffolk,
prepared burgers, hot dogs and chips. We also had Acorn Hill Farms and B &
H Vegetables which each donated watermelons. You can find both of these vendors
at the Suffolk Farmers Market.
Entertainment: This was
a group effort of the Suffolk Peanut Cloggers, local fitness organizations in
and around Suffolk. For children we had the carnival games with prizes, puppet
stage, face painting, and the popular Teeny Tiny Farm. Not to mention all the
help we received from the volunteer crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln, which
manned the games and helped wherever they were needed.
What will
be at the 2014 event?
More of everything we had last year. But this year we have
more time to get ready so we can give more local neighboring communities, people,
and businesses time to make arrangements to help out.
This includes:
- FOOD – We know everyone loves to
eat, and with the help of sponsors, we get free food!
- Stage entertainment – local area music
and entertainment
- For the Kids – the puppet stage, petting
farm, and more
- For Everyone - Obici’s expanded Health
Fair, law enforcement and rescue vehicles to tour
- Vendors – we will have a larger area
for local family friendly businesses to showcase their products and
services so that we can support them.
- Local Organizations – We want to see more
local organizations that are of benefit for our communities
Who can
participate and how can I get involved?
With a little bit of help from everyone we can have an
awesome planning and fun event.
- Neighborhoods - Hillpoint and Applewood
Farms communities and Burnett’s Mill were the driving forces for last
years’ event. This year we want more of the communities close to Obici
Hospital to get involved.
- Businesses – We are looking for a few
businesses that would like to help as sponsors covering the expenses for
the event, AND/OR businesses that would like to showcase their products
and services at the event.
- Organizations - The military is always helpful and
willing to help out. If you are part of ANY branch, we would love to have
a team of your buddies help out. Are you part of or know of helpful local
organizations that would be of benefit to our neighbors? (MOPS, Scouts,
Sign-up for team sports, etc.)
- Individuals – We need lots of help of
all sorts. Walkers for flyer distribution. If you have experience contacting
larger organizations, we need help making sponsor connections. We also
need help with setting up at the event, creating posters, post event take
down, cleanup and more.
